It depends on the manufacturer and the model. Some futons made of metal contain very poor grade metal as well as poor quality welding. Likewise, some wooden futon frames are only partly wood or contain laminated wood and are not worth the price. When it comes right down to it, you have to do your homework. Ask your dealer specific questions about the quality. Ask him/her out of what kind of wood the futon frame is made. Good quality futon frames are made of Ash, solid Oak, imported hardwood or Indonesian hardwoods from rubber trees. Inquire about types of reinforcements for wood and welds for metal frames. Do some research on the manufacturers. Find out how long and what is covered under the futon's warranty? Although you will most likely find that the dealer does not know the answers to your specific questions, it is a good starting point for your research.
